Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Mediator’s role?
My role is to help facilitate a conversation and to give you both the tools you need to make informed decisions. You will discuss parenting plans, division of assets, and support with a focus on what works for both of you. You can be as creative as you would like in your sessions, and nothing will go into your Agreement that you do not both agree to.
Why Choose Mediation?
Empowering– You and your spouse make the decisions, not the Judge.
Private and Confidential– Mediation discussions stay between the parties.
Cost-Effective– Mediation is typically less expensive than traditional litigation.
Faster– You move at your own pace and can resolve issues in weeks or months instead of years.
Respectful and Family-Focused– Mediation helps preserve communication and cooperation for the future. This is especially helpful for families with children.
Do We have to get Divorced?
That is your choice. There are many couples who choose to follow their Agreement for years and do not file for divorce. There are pros and cons to this decision which you will discuss in your meetings.
Do We need an Attorney?
Each of you will need to get a review attorney at the end of our sessions. If you do not have someone, I can provide you with some options.
What can We expect after Our sessions?
Once you both have made all the necessary decisions, I will draft an Agreement that can be used to structure your separation, or it can be used to draft your Uncontested Divorce paperwork if you choose.
